Which is better: Wheelchair ramps or wheelchair lift?
The answer to this question all depends on the location which is being debated at the time. Wheelchair ramps can be a good idea and can certainly save a lot of unnecessary building and cost which may well come along with getting a wheelchair lift fitted; however, there are times when a ramp simply isn’t suitable. Having a large ramp inside a building may well become a hazard to other people who have to use the building and sometimes, in order for them to avoid a steepness which would make them impossible for unaccompanied people in wheelchairs to use, ramps have to stretch quite a long way and take up much more space than a lift would do. That being said, a ramp is a much safer addition to the outside of a building, in terms of possible theft etc, than a lift is.
Lifts tend to be considered for indoor purposes whilst ramps solve most outdoor problems. Indeed, if there is only one awkward step or a little gap which needs to be sorted out then it just isn’t worthwhile putting in an entire lift, it would be a waste of money.
