What is a wheelchair lift?

Wheelchair lifts are, essentially, exactly what they sound like; they are lifts which are specifically included in buildings in order to help wheelchair users negotiate themselves between different levels or floors which are not far enough apart to structurally-warrant the inclusion of a regular lift. They can be fitted into any public place and, excitingly, can also be included in people’s private homes as well.  They are built to accommodate wheelchairs and can be fitted with different features to accommodate the different types of disabilities which its users may have. Whilst being smaller than conventional lifts, they are still large enough to accommodate a user and an accompanying person; they just generally have space for one wheelchair, as opposed to larger passenger lifts which could possibly fit in two or three.

Wheelchair lifts, or smaller versions of them, can also be used to help people with the entering and exiting of vehicles and this has helped many disabled people regain or keep their independence. Ultimately, wheelchair lifts are a necessity in the modern day world; businesses and other public places need them to comply with current legislation and private homes should consider them to make life that little bit easier.
