What is a powered access platform?

A powered access platform is, essentially, exactly what it sounds like.  They are access platforms which are generally powered by either electric or diesel, rather than running on the traditional method of hydraulics. This means that, whilst they may be a bit more expensive to run, they can generally be smaller and much more mobile as there isn’t the need to include hydraulic systems when making them; this means that powered access platforms lend themselves to some of the smaller forms of scissor lift and to smaller platforms such as cherry pickers.

Powered access platforms are generally used for the same purposes and for the same reasons as non-powered ones, they just run on something different. When deciding what is you want, or which type would best suit you, you need to decide what it is you are wanting the access platform for, how long each day it will be in use and whether or not you can afford the electricity or the diesel which will go hand in hand with that.  They may be smaller and perhaps more convenient but you don’t want to make a financial investment which you ultimately can’t keep to.
