What can go wrong with a secondhand stair lift?

Whilst it is not fair to tar all secondhand stair lifts with the same brush, it is fair to say that, in comparison to new models, quite a lot can often go wrong with them. However, as long as you are aware of the problems which may arise, then getting a secondhand product can save you a lot of money and this can only be a good thing, particularly in these dangerous and difficult economic times.

A secondhand stair lift will have seen a lot of use and will have the natural wear and tear which one would expect because of this; the problems start to arise when this wear and tear begins to become dangerous. The motor can become worn out and this can mean that the movement up or down the stairs is not as smooth nor as speedy as it should be. After years of use, the buttons on the control panel can also become damaged and this can make it much harder for users to control the stair lift as they would wish to. It can also be hard to fit a stair lift designed for one person into someone else’s home.
