What are service lifts?
Service lifts are most commonly found within the catering environment, but they can also be used in offices or other places where heavy lifting needs to be done, or cumbersome items need to be transported between levels at a rapid pace. In the old days they would have been called dumb waiters and would have been found in most of the stately homes of the world. Now, however, they are more likely to be found in industry than some rich people’s estate.
The alternative to having a service lift is the back-breaking prospect of trolleys laden down with food or files or books; service lifts help keep staff and employees safe as well as being an important inclusion if one is to achieve maximum efficiency in ones chosen place of work. They are most commonly used in restaurants, where they mimic the dumb waiters of yester-years and they allow hot food to be delivered more quickly than would otherwise be possible- they have become an essential part of providing a first class restaurant service. They are less common in offices (mainly because larger personnel-lifts are normally present in these types of situation).
