When should you think about access for the disabled?

You really need to think about access for the disabled right at the very start of your business venture. If you have just purchased a shop or company, or if you have just taken over somewhere new, then it really needs to be the 1st thing on your radar screen.  It really can’t be stressed enough that this is not something which can be put off until later- any delay could cost you customers, could cost you reputation but could also end up costing you money in the way of fines as well.

If you aren’t setting up a company, if you’ve been running one for the last few years, then you should already have adhered to the new legislations which have been brought in. If you haven’t then you need to act now, there is no time like the present.  Putting in things like lifts can mean huge structural work on your building and thus it is best to get it out of the way at the very conception of a business. Alternatively, if you are about to embark upon a major redecoration and renovation scheme then you might be just as well to consider upgrading your disabled facilities at the same time.
