What are the legal requirements for a disabled access lift?
There are now a plethora of detailed laws out there which govern how disabled access to buildings should be handled and it would be impossible to boil everything down to a quick summary like this. One of the main problems comes from the fact that there are different laws governing different types of institution, for instance private members clubs have only recently been brought under the banner of such laws and thus you would need to read up on the laws which were specific to your own industry or strata of the business world. Essentially, you need to comply with health and safety regulations and with disabled access regulations as well; there are two balls which you need to keep up in the air at all times- drop one and you could well be looking at a fine or much more serious consequences.
Reading up on the laws may well be boring and time-consuming but it will be time well spent; you might even discover you don’t need a disabled access lift and that, in fact, a ramp will be perfectly acceptable. Read now so you don’t have to pay later.
