I need a bath lift that can be taken out of the bath after each use

Q. I need a bath lift that can be taken out of the bath after each use. We only plan on using it every so often so don’t want to spend to much but also I don’t want it permanently fitted. What type of lift do you think fits my needs best?

A. Look at the Bellavita on www.practicalbathing.co.uk

Do you charge extra for installation of your bath lifts?

Q. Do you charge extra for installation of your bath lifts? Im wondering if this is something I can do myself.

A. Only the Relaxa requires installation. The cost of this will depend on your location and the type of wall being fixed to. If you are aware of wall fixing types for different substrates, and have the necessary tools you may be able to do it yourself.

Could you tell me how is the bath lift secured to the bath?

Q. Could you tell me how is the bath lift secured to the bath, does it need to be screwed on, will it damage the bath in anyway?

A. No bath lifts are screwed to the bath. They do not affect the bath in any way.

Is there a bath lift available that does not need to be fitted or bolted to the bath?

Q. Mr Barfoot Is there a bath lift available that does not need to be fitted or bolted to the bath? We are likley to be moving from our home over the next 18 months and I don’t want to have to buy a new bath before we leave. I look forward to your answer. Regards

A. The Bellavita lift relies on suckers to stick it to the bath floor. It is easily released leaving no damage to the bath.

My husband and I need a bath lift but I have a concern

Q. My husband and I need a bath lift but I have a concern. He is around 6 foot 5 inchs tall and does not fit in the bath as it is would this cause an issue if he used a bath lift. Im not sure we may need a new bath?

A. Bath lifts do take up some space in the bath, so yes, his access would be further restricted unless you went for a Relaxa belt style lift (see www.practicalbathing.co.uk)

Is a bath lift easy to operate for someone who suffers from dementia?

Q. Im enquiring about a bath lift for a person who suffers from a mild form of dementia. Is a bath lift easy to operate for someone in her condition, or will someone have to help her?

Many Thanks

A. Bath lifts are very easy to operate, with just an Up and a Down button. I’d recommend that someone assists or observes to begin with to ascertain the user’s capabilities.

Do you need height and weight details to fit someone for a specific bath lift or does one size fit all?

Q. I need to get a bath lift for my dad. Do I need his height and weight to fit him for a specific bath lift or does one size fit all? Cheers

A. Bath lifts are not tailored to specific customers. There are maximum lifting weights, so check this if your Dad is a large gentleman. It’s a good idea to try before buying to make sure your Dad is comfortable with using the lift. A range of lifts can be seen and tried at Practical Bathing’s demonstration area in Egham, Surrey (www.practicalbathing.co.uk).

Can the bath lift be shipped to my door and what about installation?

Q. The bath lift seems to be the answer to my bathing problems, but I can’t go out to buy it. Can it be shipped to my door and what about installation??

A. The Bellavita bath lift can be shipped directly to you at home. It does not require installation as it is self assembly (very simple) and battery powered.

Take a look at www.practicalbathing.co.uk for details and price which includes delivery.

What if something goes wrong while using the bath lift, is there some kind of alarm?

Q. I am buying a bath lift for my mother. She is elderly and not too independent. What if something goes wrong while she is using it is there some kind of alarm or alert device on them?

A. If your mother is likely to require assistance then you should provide her with an alarm device or a mobile telephone to have near to hand. Bath lifts do not feature alarms. Most bath lifts will not permit their use if there is insufficient battery to safely lift the bather back up. The Bellavita or Relaxa are very good options, see www.practicalbathing.co.uk for details
