Lift Services

Lifts have become such an integral part of 21st Century living that we really don’t notice them at all anymore- we have them in our offices, in our shopping centres, in our train stations and some of them even have them in our homes. They may have been a novelty play thing for the rich and superior when they were first conceived, but not lifts are as part of the fabric of our day to day lives as anything else. We just don’t notice them anymore; until they break down and then we do.

Lifts have become such a vital part of our way of life because of how easy and efficient they make everything- many business and places of public interest rely on them to create equal access for all people and to keep things flowing and moving- when they break down it can mean a loss of customers, a loss of time and a loss of money and thus it is imperative that you get your lift regularly serviced in order to ensure that your business keeps moving as smoothly as possible for as long as possible.

Of course, there are so many different types of lifts out there, carrying so many different loads and weights , all at different ages, that it would be impossible to give a set time for when they should be serviced. It all depends on how old they are, how much they work and what they carry when they do work. You should talk to your supplier when you first set about getting a lift, they will be able to recommend, based on your own businesses unique needs and outputs, how often you should consider having your lift serviced.

Servicing of lifts encompasses many different areas and it is important that you don’t overlook any of them. There are the cosmetic services which often get overlooked; in an office or public place presentation is everything; you don’t want a potential new client to be put off signing on the dotted line simply because there was a bad smell in the lift on their way up to your office.

Similarly, as a landlord, you really don’t want disgruntled tenants complaining to you all the time about the state of the elevators they are forced to use; in the latter scenario there will be legal issues at stake as well. Thus you should have your lift regularly and thoroughly cleaned and this should help all who ride in it feel relaxed and comfortable. There are, obviously, much more important services which need to be considered as well though.

Services to the electronic control panel in any lift are vital; not only are these panels how passengers control where they want to go, but they are also where help can be called for and where the phone is generally located for passengers to use if they encounter any difficulty- clearly it is vital, perhaps even a matter of life and death, that such equipment works properly and that it is serviced efficiently whenever it is needed. Sadly the control panel is often one of the first things which is targeted by vandals and thus it is certainly an area which needs to be kept under scrutiny.

The much more complex area of lift servicing is that of the actual mechanics, the hydraulic system of the lift itself. These are clearly vital to the overall smooth running of the lift and thus, as such, they need to be taken very seriously. Obviously, if a lift is carrying tonnes of weight rather than a couple of people every day then it is going to need servicing more regularly.

If you enter into a service agreement with your supplier when you first buy the lift then you should be O.K, they will be able to tackle any problems for you when they first arise and will also be very good at spotting problems which may arise in the future- paying out for lift servicing may seem like an expense you could do without, particularly in these difficult economic times but you will only end  up having to pay out much more in the future if you don’t tackle problems when they arise and stya on top of maintenance.

There are a plethora of articles on here which talk about different elements of lift servicing but you should also take a look around the more specific pages which are dedicated to the different types of lifts which are available. Read up on them and arm yourself with knowledge- when talking to your supplier don’t be afraid to ask any questions which you might have; it’s better to get all the information now than to be caught out much later down the line. The sky really is the limit.
