How does a stair lift work?

Essentially, they work in much the way one would expect a stair lift to work. The mechanical items are fitted to the railings on the wall of the staircase and the chair, which is where the passenger sits, is moved up and down the stairs by a track which is powered either by hydraulics or by an electric motor. The passenger is always in complete control, choosing when to start the movement and how fast they wish to travel, as well as the direction in which they wish to travel in- thus, if you realize you’ve forgot something half way down the stairs, you can easily nip back up and get it. The passenger will then unstrap themselves and, if applicable, move the protective hand rails and disembark from the chair either to walk unaided or to get themselves into a wheelchair.

Stair lifts are an incredibly simple invention which have made a huge different to millions of people- they work in much the same way as platform lifts do but they are just much comfier to use for the passenger- when you have mobility problems and stairs are hard for you, comfort is probably something which you crave!
