How does a garage lift work?

Garage lifts work in very much the same way as most of the other lifts which are discussed on various parts of this website. Most of them will be hydraulic although some may well be powered by some other means- perhaps via diesel or electric power- most though will be hydraulic and this means that, even if a lift is fairly small, it will still be able to lift quite a lot more than its own weight (clearly something which is very useful when dealing with very heavy vehicles). There will either be a scissor-like hydraulic arm, on top of which will be a ramp, and the scissor arm will lift up the ramp, allowing the person who needs to get under the car to do so.

Alternatively, there will be one large piston or pumping arm which will raise the car up either on a ramp or on posts and the work will be done this way. They both essentially do the exact same job and thus, when you get down to it, it doesn’t particularly matter which one you choose. Talk to your supplier and see if they can recommend one for your specific problem and circumstances.
