Chair Lifts

Chair lifts are a great solution for people who may not be disabled, may not be in a wheelchair, but they may still have slight mobility problems which are starting to affect the way they can go about doing the everyday things in their life which normally they used to find so easy.

As we get older, or even when we are younger and we have an accident or injury, we can find that climbing our stairs to go the bathroom or to get in bed becomes a chore which we really begin to dread.  Similarly, if we have steps up to the front door or simply to get near our house or flat, or if we live in assisted living accommodation, any sort of steps can become a burden which takes the enjoyment out of the little things we used to enjoy doing.

Chair lifts, or stair lifts as they are also sometimes known, can offer a real solution to this problem and thousands of people every year decide to invest in a chair lift to bring a little bit of comfort back into their lives.

Chair lifts can work both inside and outside- although outside ones do need a little bit more taking care of, and thus you can have easy access to all parts of your home- if there’s a part of the garden you used to love pottering about in but now you can’t face it because of a steep set of stairs, an outside stair lift can help just as much as an inside one can help you get upstairs to bed with minimal effort.

As many people get older they start to consider whether or not they are really capable of staying in their old living conditions much longer. Some people lucky enough to have downstairs bathroom facilities often find it easier to switch to living on the bottom floor of the house alone whilst others are forced to sell up completely and either move into a bungalow or into some form of care home or assisted living. This is not the ideal solution for any of us and we all like to think that we would be able to keep our independence for as long as possible- chair lifts provide this opportunity.

For many people who could benefit from a chair lift, price is the one thing which often puts them off and makes them re-consider. This needn’t be the case. There are a plethora of second-hand chair lifts on the market which are just waiting to be given a good home- the only thing to consider with these, of course, is the maintenance which will be involved in looking after them, as well as whether they will last as long as a new one. Such generalisations do the second-hand chair lift market a disservice however; as long as you go with a reputable retailer who is willing to guarantee your purchase for a set amount of time you should be completely fine.

The other way to avoid shelling out for a new stair lift is to rent one but, clearly, this is really only a short term solution. If you have mobility problems and need help getting up the stairs whilst a lift is being fitted, then renting a chair lift could be a viable solution.

Similarly, if you have temporary mobility problems due to an accident or injury then renting a stair lift can help you get through your recovery much easier and then you can have it taken away when you are better and able to tackle the stairs by yourself again.

One downside of chair lifts is that, if you have a curving staircase, you are going to end up paying out a lot more for your product than you would if you had a straight staircase. This is fair when you consider the amount of engineering which must go into a curved chair lift which will have most likely been designed to fit your unique situation. In terms of the chair itself, there are a lot of different designs and ranges which you can choose from; some of them are very basic where as some of them will be so comfy you will likely find yourself riding up and down the stairs constantly just because you don’t want to get off!

Read the articles below and then set  off to do your own research into the companies who are out there- remember you want one with a fair price and who will fit it for you and service it should the need arise; everything should be taken care of. All you then need to do is sit back, relax and enjoy your independence and your own home once again. It really is that simple
