Would you suggest I buy a used cherry picker?

This is a question which comes up a lot; particularly in these difficult economic times when everyone is trying to save money and cut costs in any way they can.  However, if a cherry picker is not running properly, or if the hydraulic lifting system is not working as well as it should then it could well turn out to be a false economy.

Used cherry pickers are generally ok, just as used cars generally present their new owners with no apparent problems; it really all depends on where you’re getting it from and whether or not they are a reputable company.

It would not be advisable to go for a cherry picker which was over 5 to 7 years old as technology advances so much so rapidly that you may well be left with a model which is very much behind the times; however, if you can pick yourself up a used model which is still fairly recent then you should be fine.

One of the other things to remember as well is that, of course, the term ‘cherry picker’ only refers to the arm and the basket.
