Are access platforms easy to operate and do I need training?
Well, it isn’t as complicated as, say, brain surgery or flying a plane but there is still a certain level of expertise which is needed in order to safely and properly operate an access platform, particularly the larger models and thus it probably comes down the age-old saying that it is easy, but only if you know what you’re doing.
To be able to legally drive an access platform, to be able to do it properly and safely, you need to train with an International Powered Access Federation training centre. You can train to be an operator or a demonstrator (you really only need the former in order to use it to carry out various tasks). Once you have this training then you should be able to handle any tasks which are thrown at you, and the access platforms should be able to lift almost any weights which you may need to. They are relatively simple to use but some training is still clearly required. This training can be done through you or through an accredited ‘school’; of which there are many throughout Europe which you could choose from.
